Philosophy

To me, human connection is everything. One of my favorite things to say is that I am surrounded by mirrors. Some hold the images of my family and my friends, and others I look in and see me. These are all my connections which are reflected on me and on them. When one of these mirrors cracks, it is reflected upon me, usually in my mental health. It can be all-consuming and feel as if no one is there to help but despite popular belief, mirrors are repairable and once again all of our connections are reflected and within us. Thus mental health is a community effort and I believe in community. This is what drives a lot of my work and I want people to be able to be surrounded by mirrors of support that are there for them when they need to see reflections and goodness and strength. As a student, I hope to be a facilitator for connection within my school community by creating events that allow people time and space to see how they are connected to others and deeper parts of themselves. I want to make sure a school is a place not just to study and specialize in fields outside of one’s own initial understanding but also to study oneself’s and every part that makes one whole. Holding onto ourselves and caring for each part of ourselves is tied to our mental health and community not just with others but with ourselves.
